Mechanical Requirements and Material Specs

Black and White
 

1. One set of screened film, right reading, emulsion side down, same size advertisement.

  2. 100 line screen for offset process.
 

3. 3% highlight, 60% shadow. Greater than 80% will print solid. All ow for 30% dot gain.

Spot Color
  Newspaper may closely match spot color by combining process inks. Pantone colors may be specified, but an exact match is not guaranteed. Metallic and any other speciality inks are not available.
Four Color
  1. Film - One set of film, right reading, emulsion side down and one matchprints.

These gray balance specifications provide separators with the basic parameters for 4-color requirements.
These specifications do not include color correction. Color correction will be different for every original.

- Yellow 60%

  - Magenta 58%
  - Cyan 67%   - Black 54%

Allow for a total dot gain of 30%
Note: do not enter highlight in a spectral HL area.

  3. Type - Reverse acceptable but not less than 14 pt. (avoiding serif faces). Only reversed in areas with at least 50% tone value in black, magenta or cyan. Screen type reversed in single solid color must not exceed 20% tint value of that color. Overprint type should not be used n any area that exceeds 30% screen tint (printed value). Yellow should not be used for either reverse or overprint type.
  4. Graphic Color (Screen Tints) - Minimum screen tint that will reproduce is 20%. Any tint 80% or higher will print solid. Combinations of solids and screen tints should not excced 240%.
