Traffic
World
has been the transportation community's weekly source of industry
news since 1907. While it has changed dramatically in recent years,
in line with changes in regulation and in the businesses it covers,
Traffic World remains the only paid-subscription magazine
in the transportation and logistics field. And it's the only weekly
that covers the gamut of freight transportation and logistics news.
Its mission, as stated in its very first lead editorial:
"To
give the most impartial channel for (industry) news to be found
anywhere. Our belief is that those who wish a real measure of
frankness and independence cannot select a better medium for the
things they wish to say."
The bottom line
for transportation and logistics decision makers and those on the
industry's front lines, is that if you have to wait three weeks
to read the story, the news isn't fresh. Fast-breaking developments
in all modes of transportation -- air, rail, motor, water - are
covered in concise, informative articles each week in TrafficWorld.
Up-to-date news on regulatory, legislative and court actions, new
technology, an STB digest of orders and actions, insightful editorials
and illustrative charts and graphics are included in every issue.

World Wins 1996 Salzberg Concept Award
Traffic
World
received the 1996 Salzberg Concept Award presented by the Syracuse
University School of Management. The award honors organizations
that have pioneered ideas, practices, concepts or policies that
have helped reshape the practice of transportation and distribution.
The Salzberg Medal was presented to Traffic World at the 45th annual
Harry E. Salzberg Program at Syracuse University April 11-12.James
E. Comerford, president and CEO of Sears Logistics Services, received
the 1996 Salzberg Practitioner Award, presented annually by the
Syracuse University School of Management in recognition of a distinguished
career in carrier management, policy development or distribution/logistics
management. Yellow Corp.'s Newton Graves, vice president of customer
relations at Yellow Freight System, was given the Salzberg Honorary
Award, which each year recognizes one who has made an outstanding
contribution to transportation education and served as an advocate
for the transportation industry.
The
Salzberg fund and lecture was established in 1949 under a grant
made to Syracuse by the late Murray M. Salzberg as a memorial to
his father. ''We are pleased to have a key role in recognizing the
accomplishments of transportation and logistics/distribution practitioners,
academicians, researchers, advocates and students,'' said Theodore
O. Wallin, chair of the marketing department at Syracuse University.
''They are on the cutting edge of issues and trends that are having
a dramatic impact on business logistics and productivity.'' Traffic
World has been published weekly since 1907 and has long been
the industry's primary source of news. Following the demise of regulation
and, consequently, of the importance of regulatory orders and decisions,
the magazine has strived to meet its readers' changing needs with
more information on rates and services, carriers' financial health
and logistics management.
